Library Orientation Webinars 
Do you ever feel overwhelmed about doing library research or finding peer-reviewed sources? Library instructor Jonathan Lehtonen will help you with the basics. 

Fall 2025 Webinars: 

  - Fri., October 24, 10:00-10:45 am ET (Register here)

 - Thurs., October 30, 8:00-8:45 pm ET (Register here)

The first 30 minutes of each webinar will cover traditional search methods:

  • CU Search tools and tips, ProQuest, and Academic Search Complete
  • Accessing print books by mail
  • Getting help from anywhere in the world!

The final 15 minutes will cover tips for using AI ethically and responsibly for research purposes:

  • Using Consensus AI and Google Gemini to help you find relevant peer-reviewed articles online or at the Montgomery Library
  • When to use AI disclosure statements
  • Getting writing feedback from AI without copying/plagiarizing off of AI

Fact-Finding Tactics: How Can I Tell if a Source is Lying or Biased? 

(Chapel/Life Credit Eligible)

Learn essential skills for evaluating sources, identifying bias, and distinguishing reliable information from misinformation in your research. Practice skills for detecting AI-generated images and video, and examine how to identify overly emotional appeals, as well as how to distinguish among facts, opinions, and arguments when doing research.

Learn how to use AI tools effectively and responsibly in your academic work while maintaining integrity. This session will cover the importance of valuing personal transformation, truthfulness, and trustworthiness when completing your work. We will discuss topics such as the cognitive and emotional risks of using AI, AI disclosure statements, citations for AI generated text, prompt engineering, and AI data privacy issues. In addition, this session will explore how to use two top AI systems for academic research purposes: Google Gemini and Consensus AI.
